印度是全球最大的黄金需求国之一，不过其国内对黄金的需求多来自保值而非投资。1980年，印度国内的金价差不多为1330卢比，而当时印度孟买指数Sensex在100。到了2014年，印度国内的金价大涨了27800卢比，而Sensex也达到了27000。
也就是说，这34年中，印度国内金价上涨了20倍，而Sensex则增长了270倍。从这方面来看，Sensex的回报是远超黄金的。
不过有一方面需要注意，很多在1980年时被包括在Sensex中的企业目前已经不复存在了，而黄金当然会一直在。
