中美互相加征关税生效：北京时间8月23日12:00，根据美国联邦公报网站声明，美国对自中国进口的160亿美元产品加征25%的关税正式生效。与此同时，根据中国商务部本月早些时候的声明，中国政府的反制措施也将同时生效，中国也将加征25%的关税。中国商务部新闻发言人就美国对160亿美元中国产品征税发表谈话，表示中方坚决反对美方举措，并不得不作出必要反击。
澳元受政治风险干扰大幅下挫：澳大利亚总理特恩布尔周四遭受可能危及其领导地位的致命打击，多位重要部长辞职，并要求自由党籍议员召开特别会议，以便就党首之位可能进行投票。澳大利亚的政治风波叠加美指的技术反抽需求，使得日内澳元兑美元大幅下挫，目前报0.7295。
