关于此次的美联储决议，市场一致预期会继续宣布削减100亿美元的月度购债规模，而金融市场将仔细倾听有关美联储何时开始升息的蜘丝马迹。有关每位利率决策者预期的政策紧缩时间点，以及紧缩步伐快慢的看法将受到密切检视。
意大利裕信银行(UniCredit)在研究报告中表示：“美联储正准备迈入货币政策退出的第二阶段。鉴于缩减资产购买规模实际上处于自动运行，第三轮量化宽松预计在夏季末或秋季初结束，市场关注焦点正逐渐转向升息。”
裕信银行还表示，如果美联储决策者对2016年底时的利率预估中值维持在3月的2.25%，高于12月时的1.75%，那么美国货币政策已经触及转折点的看法将会增强。
虽然美国经济今年一季度表示不尽如人意，但市场多将其归咎于恶劣的寒冬天气影响。许多分析师相信，美国增长的根本趋势将仍保持稳健。
