男孩Jim从城里移居到乡下，并从一个农民那里花了100美元买了一头驴，这个农民收到钱后，同意第二天把驴带来交给他。
第二天，Jim却发现那是一头死驴。Jim很不高兴，但是农民拒绝把钱还给他，理由是：“我没告诉你那是一头活的驴子呀！”
一个月以后，农民遇到了Jim，农民问他：“那头死驴后来怎么样了？”
Jim说：“我靠他赚了499美元！”
农民很惊讶。
Jim说：“我举办了一次幸运抽奖，并把那头驴作为奖品，我卖出了600张票，每张1美元，就这样，我收了600美元。”
农民好奇地问：“难道没有人对此表示不满？”
Jim回答：“只有那个中奖的人表示不满，所以我把他买彩票的钱还给了他，最后扣除成本100美元，我赚了499美元。”
许多年后，长大的Jim成为了安然公司的总裁。
