12月9日，现货黄金出现巨大跌幅，刷新近几日以来的最低点，由于美国刺激法案的谈判受到阻碍，让美元走高黄金承压，此外疫苗取得更多乐观进展也提振了市场对经济复苏的希望，减少黄金避险需求。
周三，加拿大批准了辉瑞和BioNTech的新冠肺炎疫苗，此前一天，英国成为第一个开始大规模接种疫苗的西方国家。
特朗普政府提出一项9160亿美元的援助计划，其中包括对受到疫情影响的美国人发放支票，但参议院多数党领袖麦康奈尔声称民主党领导人不合作。美国国会参议院共和党领导人麦康奈尔称，国会山民主党领导层（参议院民主党领导人舒默和众议院议长佩洛西）正在抛弃共和党的救助建议。
分析师表示，麦康奈尔没有表现出任何屈服于民主党人的迹象，此后美元走强，金价回落。他还指出，美国似乎即将批准新冠疫苗、本周围绕刺激方案将进行密集谈判等因素将使金价大幅波动。
央行需求下降，ETF的出售对黄金价格构成最大威胁，该行将2021年平均金价预测下调至1907美元/盎司。
分析师表示，目前黄金价格的走势几乎与2011年至2013年中期的走势几乎一致，但是黄金目前的走势要比当时快得多。他认为，历史似乎正在重演，如果真是这样的话，黄金后市将不容乐观。他指出，黄金目前已经回升至9月份的低点附近，这一价格水平在之前是一个强有力的支撑位，但现在已经变成阻力位了，这意味着，调整性的上涨行情可能很快就会结束。
