7月3日，現貨黃金維持在5美元的窄幅區間內，雖然受到避險情緒的支撐，但由於美國疫情的大幅反彈，投資者更願意持有美元，對金價造成一定限制。而美國疫情還沒看到拐點，民主黨總統候選人拜登怒斥總統讓賢。
美國勞工部週四發佈的報告顯示，重啟經濟對招聘產生了巨大影響，美國6月份新增非農就業崗位480萬，遠超預期並創下歷史新高。特朗普在白宮對記者說：“(6月份就業數據)證明我們的經濟正在復蘇。”他還鼓吹他領導的政府為抗疫做出了“空前的”努力。
不過市場對此反應不甚積極，因為新冠病毒感染人數再度激增，恐將再度令經濟活動踩下刹車。美國週四新增新冠病例達55274例，刷新了巴西在6月19日創造的54771例全球單日新增紀錄。
在過去14天中，美國50個州中有37個州新增新冠病毒感染病例增加，這是最新的嚴峻跡象，表明一度被認為減弱的新冠疫情再次迅速蔓延。美國迄今已有128740人感染新冠死亡，接近全球死亡病例總數的四分之一。
因此即使現在疫情出現反彈，全美也不太願意大規模重新實施嚴厲的社會封控措施。在新冠疫情大流行初期，那樣做讓企業全面停擺，美國經濟遭受滅頂之災，數千萬美國人申領失業金，避險黃金價格則不斷刷新多年高位。
非接觸式交易固然在很大程度上降低了病毒傳播風險，但參議員們警告說，如果任何零售商都完全禁止使用現金，那麼對於不少面臨財務困難美國人顯然是歧視性做法。
有大約20%的美國家庭無法使用支票或儲蓄帳戶，即便能訪問帳戶也有諸多限制。在這些家庭中，大約6%根本沒有銀行帳戶，這意味著他們根本通過銀行系統付款。目前每週初請失業金的人數依然以7位數的速度增加，無法使用銀行系統支付的美國人數量料繼續增加。
民主黨總統候選人拜登在一次演講中說：“不要再宣告勝利了，還有近1500萬美國人仍因疫情而處於失業狀態，不要再忽視這場大流行和美國人民正在因此喪生的現實了。採取行動，發揮領導作用，否則就讓賢，這樣其他人就可以行動了，總統先生。”
讓經濟保持繁榮是特朗普尋求在11月大選中連任的一個重要政綱，但眼下的形勢讓美國民眾對新冠病毒傳播帶來的經濟和社會衝擊愈發感到擔憂，而拜登也找到了猛烈抨擊特朗普新的充分理由，黃金和匯市也將面臨新的動盪。
