在周五关键月度就业报告之前，美国经济出现疲软迹象。美国一周首次申请失业救济人数连续第七周超过300万人，表明经济重压仍几乎没有缓解的迹象，此外第一季美国生产率出现2015年底以来最大降幅；定于周五公布的数据料显示，美国失业率将从3月份的4.4%升至上个月的16%；这提振了黄金的避险需求。
英国央行周四按兵不动，暂时不扩大刺激经济措施，但英国央行行长Andrew Bailey称，决策层最早可能在下个月扩大货币刺激政策，因英国可能面临欧洲最严重的经济下滑。分析师指出，由于市场预期进一步的量化宽松即将到来，金价因此正上涨；英国央行为进一步量化宽松可能性敞开了大门，这支持了金价。
纽约6月交割黄金期货价格上涨2.2%，收于1725.80美元/盎司。白银同样在市场上涨，盘中一度大涨4.53%，刷新近一周高点至15.695美元/盎司，为三周来最大涨幅，而铂金和钯金也在纽约商业交易所攀升。
