2月28日，美工公佈了1月PCE物價指數，資料不及市場預期，而且其他同步公佈的資料也大部分不急市場預期，在美國資料公佈後，金價出現短線的小幅度上漲，而加拿大公佈的GDP季調後資料則超出預期。
具體資料顯示，美國1月PCE物價指數年率實際公佈1.7%，預期1.8%，前值1.6%。美國1月核心PCE物價指數年率實際公佈1.6%，預期1.7%，前值1.6%。
財經網站Forexlive評美國1月核心PCE資料指出，通脹略低於預期，收入超過預期。第四季度消費者支出疲弱，這種情況延續到了第一季度，儘管收入有所增加。總體而言，今年年初美國經濟形勢穩定，但新冠病毒是一種可能改變一切的“黑天鵝”。
當前通脹資料確實還相當靚麗，但是有分析指出，這些指標並不能反映當前的通脹情況，分析師建議美聯儲應當制定新的通脹目標。
美國1月個人支出增幅不及預期，僅錄得0.2%，因天氣轉暖減少了取暖需求，服裝店銷售額也相應減少。消費動能或因新冠病毒疫情的快速蔓延而加劇，引發股市急劇拋售，並導致人們重新擔憂經濟陷入衰退。
近期加拿大央行給出的市場信號是相對較為樂觀的。加拿大央行行長波洛茲稱若加拿大沒有採取財政措施，利率可能將進一步降低。財政政策對經濟而言非常重要。
波洛茲認為，降息可能提高增加債務水準的風險。金融體系的脆弱性可能損害未來經濟，宏觀審慎規則有助於控制債務風險。不過，在公共衛生安全問題蔓延的背景之下市場也開始認為加拿大央行可能會出現被迫降息的情況。
