2月7日晚，美国劳工部公布非农就业数据，数据显示，过去三个月，非农就业新增人数21.1万，建筑业、医疗保健和运输业的就业人数有所增加，暗示美国经济可能呈现温和增长。
非农公布后，联邦基金利率期货暗示，市场预计美联储在3月会议上维稳的概率上升至94%，加息概率为0%，降息概率为6.0%；市场预计美联储2020年可能降息1次。最早在2020年9月会议上行动，降息概率为62.1%，若此次会议上没有降息，11月降息概率为66.7%。

美国劳工部公布的美国1月非农新增就业人口22.5万，好于预期的16.5万；失业率意外回升至3.6%，失业率已经连续22个月保持在低于4%的水平，这是自20世纪60年代以来持续时间最长的一次；薪资增速回升至3.1%；工资数据乐观，有望缓和美国第一季度GDP增速放缓的担忧情绪，进一步削弱美联储降息预期。薪资增速自2018年10月来几乎一直维持在3%上方，仅2次意外不及3%（9月、12月均录得2.9%），显示在国际贸易局势不稳定、全球经济低迷的大环境下，美国经济增速并未出现显著衰退迹象。
美国1月就业增速有所加快，表明尽管商业投资下滑加剧，但美国经济可能继续温和增长，一反往常的温和天气提振了与天气相关行业的就业。政府对企业的调查显示，美国1月建筑工地就业人口增幅为一年来最高，运输和仓储行业的招聘也录得强劲增长。但随着公共卫生事件对供应链造成影响，尤其是苹果公司等科技公司的供应链，预计2月份就业增长将放缓。
1月非农美联储主席鲍威尔将在下周发表半年一度的货币政策讲话，今天的就业报告给他带来了一些好消息，可以谈论，或者说部分归功于他。美联储暗示今年将维持利率不变，这份报告也证实了这一预期；总体就业数据是坚实的，并表明劳动力市场仍然相当强劲，平均每小时工资的增长对美国工人来说是个好消息，劳动力参与率的上升表明我们的劳动力市场仍然有些疲软。
