美国去年第四季经常帐赤字创下14年新低，主要因为出口增速（季增2.5%）超过进口（季增0.7%），带动商品贸易赤字缩减的影响。美国商务部经济分析局3月19日公布，2013年第四季经常帐赤字较前季修正值964亿美元减少16%至811亿美元，创1999年第四季以来的14年新低，主要受到石油产品与农产品出口增加的影响。根据路透社的调查，经济学家原先预估去年第四季经常帐赤字将为880亿美元。数据显示，第四季美国商品/劳务的贸易逆差总和，自前季的1,215亿美元减少至1,139亿美元，其中商品贸易赤字由1,784亿美元减少至1,718亿美元，而服务贸易顺差自569亿美元增加至579亿美元。另外，海外投资、汇款与劳务收入盈余自前季的591亿美元上升至644亿美元。
美国第四季经常帐赤字占GDP比重由前季的2.3%下滑至1.9%，创1997年第三季以来新低。经常帐赤字对美国GDP占比重曾在2005年第四季达最高峰至6.2%。2013全年，美国经常帐赤字占GDP比重较2012年的2.7%下滑至2.3%，则是1997年以来的新低。
