12月20日，現貨黃金無法突破1480關口，同時貿易局勢明顯緩和，美國對中美經濟運行制度的態度正逐漸幻想和解局面，同時美國經濟資料強勁，美元指數上漲明顯。但英鎊表現較差，保守黨大選獲勝而消除脫歐不確定性的希望稍微天真。
美國貿易代表萊特希澤公開表示：“我們是自由市場體系，他們是國有社會主義體系，我們必須找到一種方法讓這兩種體系可一起共事，這正是我們開始做的。希望我們能找到一個讓我們都變得富有的方法。”
美中貿易爭端朝著和解而非對抗的方向發展，也讓美聯儲先前作出暫停降息的決定變得更有說服力。美元本周本周上漲逾0.3%，有可能錄得一個月來最大周線漲幅，也持續給黃金帶去上行壓力。
美元指數獲得廣泛支撐，升至七個交易日新高97.575。本周強勁的房屋開工以及優於預期的製造業資料説明美元指數止住兩周跌勢，也加深市場預期美聯儲近期內不太可能調整利率。
英鎊兌美元日內反彈，但本周料創逾兩年來最大單周跌幅，因英國硬脫歐疑慮重燃而受創。由於耶誕節及新年假期臨近，市場整體交投偏淡。
一周前英鎊沖至2018年5月中旬以來新高，因詹森的保守黨在全國選舉中獲勝，提升了脫歐不確定性終結的希望。詹森政府將帶領英國在明年1月底退出歐盟。
但詹森將2020年12月底定為與歐盟達成貿易協定的最後期限。市場對於英國能否在2020年12月截止期限前與歐盟達成貿易協定的擔憂升溫。英鎊回吐了詹森勝選以來的所有漲幅，本周累計跌幅近2.4%。
詹森稱：“我們的首要任務是完成脫歐。我們將把英國從優柔寡斷的桎梏中解放出來，讓人民和企業重拾信心。我們將避免掉入進一步猶豫和拖延的陷阱，排除一切將過渡期延長至2020年以後的可能性。”
