美聯儲今年以來已降息兩次。週二數據顯示，美國9月生產者物價指數(PPI)意外下滑，同比增幅降至近三年來最低，可能為美聯儲提供本月降息的空間。
此外，北京時間週四02:00，美國聯邦公開市場委員會(FOMC)將公佈9月政策會議紀要。投資者將從中尋找美聯儲是否會在10月會議上降息的線索。
隨著全球緊張局勢升級，有跡象顯示經濟增長放緩，且股市下跌，更多投資者開始轉向黃金。全球黃金支持的ETF持有量已經連續17天增長，持續時間為2009年以來最長。
資金流入黃金的勢頭可能會持續下去，並維持未來6-12個月金價將漲至1700美元/盎司的預期。ISM製造業和服務業數據顯著疲軟，表明全球貿易放緩開始對美國經濟產生影響。
隨著美國乃至全球經濟形勢不確定性上升，美聯儲在最近幾個月已兩度下調利率，而市場預期還會有更多降息。黃金已經受益於市場情緒的轉變，法國巴黎銀行(BNP Paribas)認為，這種情況會繼續下去。
雖然美聯儲主席鮑威爾將7月份的降息描述為週期中調整，但這並沒有打消市場對進一步降息的預期。基準10年期美國國債收益率在7月份突然下跌，下跌速度甚至超過了低迷的通脹預期。這使得以美國通脹保值債券(TIPS)衡量的實際收益率跌至零附近，而黃金價格則攀升至1500美元/盎司。
展望未來，預計美聯儲將在今年12月、明年3月和6月分別降息25個基點。這意味著在當前週期結束時，聯邦基金利率的上界將在1.25%。他指出，如果美聯儲比預期的更加激進，金價就有可能超出預期水準。
