中國數據帶來利好消息，美元表現保守

7月15日，中國6月經濟數據遠超預期，緩解了市場對經濟放緩的憂慮，對黃金價格有所壓制。但受到美聯儲本月降息預期的影響，美元指數變現仍有一定的保守，讓金價的跌幅無法進一步擴大。同時特朗普揚言美元過於強勢。
儘管中國二季度經濟增速一如預期降至6.2%，但中國6月工業和消費表現遠超預期。中國6月規模以上工業增加值同比增長6.3%，遠高於市場預估的5.2%；中國6月社會消費品零售總額同比增長9.8%，遠超市場預期值8.5%。
中國國家統計局新聞發言人毛盛勇週一稱，上半年中國經濟實現6.3%的增速應該說還是不錯的，是一個比較平穩的、不低的、含金量比較高的、來之不易的、有後勁支撐的速度。
分析師表示：“中國經濟數據優於預期，顯示全球放緩沒有預期那麼嚴重，淡化相關疑慮，因此導致黃金出現一些獲利了結。”
美元指數仍受制於美聯儲主席鮑威爾和芝加哥聯儲主席埃文斯上周暗示——美聯儲有必要降息以提振通脹——所帶來的壓力。
IMF和世界銀行負責人與歐洲央行官員將在巴黎共同紀念佈雷頓森林體系。但在佈雷頓森林協定簽署75年之際，無論是在匯率還是貿易問題方面，國際合作的精神都在消退。貿易保護主義在升溫，美國總統特朗普主張民族主義和單邊主義，稱全球其他國家都在通過競爭性貨幣貶值竊取美國利益。
就在中美貿易談判恢復，世界兩大經濟體達成協議的可能性重新增大，讓人覺得全球貿易前景或許出現一絲希望之際，關稅爭端的戰火燒到了歐洲。法國計畫對穀歌等科技企業徵稅引發美國怒火、特朗普威脅對歐洲汽車徵稅。
特朗普一再暗示，美元相比競爭對手的貨幣過於強勢，但又不太可能動搖美聯儲的決策獨立性，因此人們愈發認為，特朗普團隊可能出臺打擊美元的具體措施，從而對美國現行政策作出劇烈且危險的突破。
美國政府有以下方式來削弱美元：明確放棄二十多年來實施的強勢美元政策(1995年時任美國總統克林頓提出)，或者特朗普命令財政部拋售美元。
近幾個月來，美國總統特朗普多次抨擊美聯儲，要求其快速大幅降息，以便刺激美國經濟增長。但國際貨幣基金組織(IMF)為美聯儲現行做法辯護。
