4月19日，日本央行縮減購債規模。同時日本可能在下周下調經濟預期，日本央行兩個月來首次縮減債券購買規模，包括日本在內的全球債券收益率已經從早些時候有所反彈。由於中美經濟數據好於預期，提升市場對風險資產的興趣，削弱了對固定收益證券的吸引力。
分析師表示，鑒於央行在稍早收益率低得多的情況下都沒有減少購買規模，此次縮減出人意料。此外，在日本4月27日至5月6日長達10天的休市前，縮減購債規模的可能性被認為是很低的，將所有期限的債券都考慮在內，此次的縮減是2月12日日本央行將10-25年期債券購買規模減少了200億日元以來的首次。25年以上期債券購買規模減少是去年9月以來的第一次。
分析師表示，“日本央行是對近期曲線過度變平作出的回應，”它利用了海外市場環境的改善，美國收益率已暫停近期的下跌趨勢”表明，日本央行打算在金融環境有利時繼續逐漸縮減購債規模，日本央行可能認為，更容易的做法是在收益率停止下跌時施加上行壓力，而不是在下行趨勢中遏制收益率的下跌。
在日本央行採取行動後，日本10年期國債收益率走高，全天上漲1個基點至-0.025%。該收益率3月28日一度觸及-0.10%，為2016年8月以來最低。日本國債期貨在日本央行操作後亦告走低。
日本央行的季度展望報告將顯示，通脹仍將持續低於目標水準2%直至2022年3月。另據消息人士稱，在下周公佈的季度預測中，由於海外增長放緩帶來的不利影響，日本央行可能會小幅下調截止2020年3月的本財年經濟增長和通脹預期，暗示在可預見的未來，日本央行將繼續實施大規模刺激計畫。
這一預估突顯出日本央行面臨的兩難境地：儘管多年近零利率令金融機構承壓，但低通脹仍迫使其維持超寬鬆政策。知情人士稱，日本央行還將首次公佈2021財年的通脹預期，預計通脹率將升至1.5%以上，但低於2%。
