4月16日，現貨黃金創下新低，由於期間公佈的德國經濟指標向好，為全球經濟好轉提供了證據，同時市場在等待本周公佈的中國第一季度GDP，而美元指數維持在關口附近。美聯儲認為應上漲通脹目標，釋放通脹潛能，對美元形成強有力的支撐。
但需要指出的是，德國近期的數據總體疲弱，歐元區經濟增長乏力，本周人們的關注點將集中在周國一季度國內生產總值(GDP)上。投資者希望從其他數據中找到更多中國經濟出現轉機的證據，這可能會在短期內確定市場基調。
已公佈的中國3月份多項數據強勁反彈，進一步加強對中國經濟正在向好的看法，只要一季度GDP數據不出現大幅不及預期的表現，市場仍有望提升對風險資產的偏好，黃金將面臨重大賣壓。
美聯儲在2012年採用2%的通脹目標，並稱當前的目標是“對稱的”，意思是它並非一個上限。但波士頓聯儲主席羅森格倫週一表示，實際上人們將其視為“上限”，而且物價的年漲幅通常小於2%。
美聯儲在2018年升息四次之後，今年維持利率穩定，其中一個原因就是決策者希望看到通脹將保持在2%左右的證據。羅森格倫在Davidson College稱：“在低利率環境下，要達成當前的目標只會更加困難。”
美聯儲今年將進行一項廣泛的政策評估，這可能導致美聯儲對通脹短暫略高於目標的情況表示歡迎。如何實現通脹目標是關鍵議題之一，但任何替代美聯儲當前做法的行動都可能引發爭議。
在其他情況下可能會放鬆政策。許多投資者押注美聯儲的下一步舉措更有可能是降息，而不是加息。
埃文斯表示：“如果經濟活動的疲軟程度超過預期，或者通脹及通脹預期過低，政策可能會維持不變，甚至會放寬，為實現我們的目標提供適當的政策寬鬆度。”
隨著借貸成本趨近於零，降息失去了效力。美聯儲更有能力應對價格上漲，而不是持續低迷的通脹。因此美元後市下跌空間有限。
分析師稱：“美元收益率升高，較G10貨幣平均收益的利差接近20年高位，這繼續維持支撐，對低收益主要貨幣來講，目前難以與美元的強大利差優勢相抗衡。
