美國昨日公佈的四季度GDP不及預期，2020全年增速更是創下74年新低，不過由於疫情重新抬頭，市場對此並不感到意外。現貨黃金在出現些許下跌後反彈回升，目前市場走向需要有更多指引。
同時公佈的其他主要數據顯示，美國四季度消費者支出年化季率初值錄得2.50%，明顯不及預期的3.10%，前值高達41%；四季度核心PCE物價指數年化季率錄得1.40%，遠不及前值3.40%。
新冠疫情重創了餐館和航空公司等服務行業，讓數以百萬計的美國人失業並陷入貧困。疫情和新支出計畫的缺失抑制了消費者支出，並在一定程度上蓋過了強勁的製造業和樓市的影響。
服務行業在新冠疫情引發的衰退中首當其衝，重新實施的商業限制舉措可能令服務支出持續低迷。這對低收入者的影響尤為嚴重，導致了所謂的K型復蘇，即收入較高者表現良好，而低收入群體則處於劣勢。
美聯儲隔夜維持利率在近零水準不變，同時保持每月1200億美元購債規模不變，美聯儲再次承諾將保持這些支持經濟的舉措，直到經濟從大流行引發的衰退中全面反彈——通脹達到2%目標並保持在該水準上方一段時間。
美國總統拜登已經公佈了一項價值1.9萬億美元的經濟復蘇計畫，但在政府12月底推出近9000億美元的額外刺激計畫後不久，有些議員對進一步推出更大規模刺激方案猶豫不決。政府支出受到州政府與地方政府財政遭疫情擠壓的影響。
美聯儲去年12月召開上一次會議時，新冠疫苗剛獲批准。此後已經完成了約2500萬劑疫苗的接種，拜登政府正力爭加快疫苗的配發速度。美聯儲主席鮑威爾表示，自己也接種了兩劑中的第一劑。
經濟復蘇中的亮點之一是房地產市場，那些仍有工作的人打算在遠離市中心的地方購置更大的房子，而抵押貸款利率也位於歷史低點。製造業則是另一個亮點，占國內生產總值(GDP)的比重已從2019年底的11.6%升至11.9%。居家辦公和遠程教育可能提振企業對電子產品的投資，企業也在四季度重新建立庫存，但累積的庫存包含了進口品，這可能導致更大的貿易逆差。
