8月10日，現貨黃金承壓，美元指數維持反彈趨勢，因非農報告好於預期，美指打算扭轉當前下跌勢頭，但黃金跌勢優先，由於疫情持續惡化，國會沒有敲定新的刺激方案，特朗普單方面發出行政令，引發市場猜疑，未來出爐的經濟數據可能助推金價。
不過黃金跌勢有限，畢竟美元上周仍然連續第七周收低，6月下旬以來累計最大跌幅超過5.3%。投資者數周來一直在為美元走軟做著準備，因為美國新冠感染病例激增，國會遲遲未能敲定新的刺激方案。
美國新冠肺炎累計確診病例數接近520萬、超過16萬人死亡。兩黨就第五份應對新冠疫情方案的談判在上周五破裂，而關鍵的失業救助與驅逐房客禁令已過期一周。隨著全美疫情持續升溫，民眾也面臨一波經濟壓力。
這促使總統特朗普於上周六(8月8日)單方面發出行政令，針對失業補助金、驅逐房客禁令、學生貸款以及薪資稅簽署行政令與備忘錄。特朗普此舉引發對於他繞過國會對稅務與支出問題的憲法權力的質疑，而且民主黨人聲稱此舉無助於緩解美國民眾的財務壓力。
共和黨占多數的參議院對此視而不見，幾周之後拿出自己的1萬億美元方案。民主黨提出與共和黨各退一步，以便消除兩黨經濟刺激計畫中逾2萬億美元的差距，但這一提議被白宮拒絕。
特朗普的失業救助備忘錄並未在當前的系統中延長特別失業補助的發放，而是授權另外一個將由各州提供部分資金的系統進行。而遭遇自大蕭條以來最嚴重的一波失業潮之後，各州在支付失業救助方面本就已捉襟見肘。
美國總統特朗普上周四採取行動，在8月16日將重新對部分加拿大鋁產品加征10%關稅，以保護美國工業免於遭受鋁進口“激增”影響。加拿大否認其有任何不當行為。自特朗普2017年上任以來，美加這兩個鄰國暨親密盟友的關係就風波不斷。
