8月3日，現貨黃金在創下新高後回落，由於美元指數反彈，投資者脫出空頭倉位，讓美元有所喘息，但美國信用出現危機，市場對美國經濟復蘇情況擔憂，美元漲勢受到限制，後市變化將繼續走弱。
評級機構惠譽上周五將美國“AAA”評級展望從“穩定”下調至“負面”，指因該國信用實力正在弱化，包括抗疫刺激政策導致赤字增加。惠譽還指出，在疫情爆發前就已不斷攀升的債務與赤字，已經開始侵蝕美國長期以來的信用實力。
市場對此將作出負面反應。他表示：“這削弱了對美國金融市場的信心，確實讓一些機構想要賣出美債，所以你可能會看到收益率出現些許回升，即使沒人真地預計美債會違約。”
美國第二季經濟創紀錄萎縮32.9%，推動美債收益率降至3月份疫情爆發導致市場動盪以來的最低水準，10年期美債收益率跌至接近0.50%，削弱了美元的吸引力。這反映出人們擔憂新冠病例數重新激增可能破壞美國經濟復蘇。
現貨黃金近期不斷刷新歷史高位，主要動力來自：美元避險光環減弱，美國政府應對疫情失策，市場對美國貨幣政策進一步寬鬆的預期，美國國會議員對進一步財政刺激措施爭論不休。
最近幾周，美國首次申請失業救濟人數持續反彈，可能觸發美元進一步跌勢的新線索很可能來自本週末即將公佈的7月非農就業數據。6月非農就業崗位增加480萬，超過預期的增加305.8萬；但7月數據預計將顯示，非農就業崗位僅增加157.8萬。
隨著失業率上升和確診病例在全國範圍內激增，國會對於如何提供另一批應對冠狀病毒大流行救助措施陷入僵局。民主黨人和共和黨人還就是否在其年度支出帳單中包括緊急冠狀病毒現金而爭論不休。
據美國政治新聞網站Politico報導，美國眾議院以217-197的投票比例通過了價值1.3萬億美元的刺激法案，其中包括2100億美元的緊急資金。但相關立法在共和黨控制的參議院中沒有動靜，總統特朗普已經威脅要否決該法案。
