經濟學人智庫表示，疫情大流行對美國經濟增長的影響將主要體現在第二季度，料GDP按季將收縮5.9%，較首季收縮1.3%擴大。報告認為，美國當局最初對疫情爆發的反應尤為差勁，使病毒迅速擴散。
考慮到遏制病毒實施的措施、3月下旬申請失業救濟人數的激增以及加快病毒檢測的進展緩慢，報告預計美國今年實際GDP將收縮2.9%，但這僅為樂觀的基本情景預測，並假設2萬億美元的經濟刺激計畫可迅速落實。
歐盟財長未能就進一步支持受新冠疫情打擊的多國經濟達成一致。這次會談旨在努力就支持各國政府、企業和個人的一攬子措施達成一致。會談將在週四繼續。
經濟學人智庫報告指稱，在最壞的情況下，倘因遏制疫情大流行令發達國家財政收入減少並大幅增加公共開支，更有可能出現主權債務危機。特別是一些歐洲國家如義大利和西班牙，其財政狀況在疫情爆發前本已薄弱，任何一個這些國家的潛在債務危機，均可能迅速蔓延至其他發達國家和新興市場，將全球經濟推向可能更深的低谷。
英鎊兌美元小幅走強。據英國《鏡報》此前報導，正在重症監護室接受治療的英國首相詹森已經退燒，病情趨於穩定。詹森3月27日承認自己確診新冠肺炎，本月5日因持續發熱入院接受檢查，6日被轉移至重症監護室。
