3月20日，現貨黃金出現大幅反彈，美元指數在刷新近年高位後回落，但目前美元指數下調幅度有限，有希望錄下近年來的最高單周漲幅。美元荒強化了全球央行採取合作行動的預期，削弱目前持續上漲的美元。
新冠肺炎疫情已導致全球近25萬人感染，逾1萬人死亡。這引發投資者對現金的瘋狂追逐，投資者拋出股票、債券、黃金和大宗商品等一切資產。
美聯儲的資產負債表本周達到創紀錄的4.7萬億美元，隨著央行為緩解全球公共衛生事件經濟影響而採取的舉措落地，美聯儲寬鬆行動出現見效的跡象。
英國央行上日緊急降息15個基點至0.1%，並承諾增加2000億英鎊購債計畫。這是他們為保護英國經濟免受全球公共衛生事件影響而做出的最新嘗試。英國央行在上週三(3月11日)剛剛將基準利率從0.75%下調至0.25%。
消息人士表示，由於全球公共衛生事件造成全球市場恐慌，並令航空業等行業陷入困境，澳洲將在週末宣佈擴大該刺激計畫。

強勢美元不僅讓美國總統特朗普氣餒——阻礙美國出口，而且將導致其他經濟體進口物價上升、或者迫使利率調升以保護本國貨幣，這些都容易使金融市場趨緊。
分析師說：“大家拋售一切，共同點是他們只想得到現金，人們就想坐擁現金，因為到最後，人們不知道下一筆收入從何而來，但他們又要支應開銷。我認為這種情況不會改變。”
主要經濟體面臨的壓力甚至強化了全球主要央行將採取聯合行動的猜測，他們可能會推動一份新的廣場協議。1985年簽訂的廣場協定就是主要央行聯合出手干預，削弱大漲的美元。
