2月21日，現貨黃金連續走強並創下歷史新高，而美元指數則從近年高位回落，同時由於公共衛生事件的影響，市場資金從亞洲市場流出，日元兌美元出現大幅下跌，估計可能出現近年來的最大跌幅。
由於日本國內經濟資料疲軟，加上圍繞全球公共衛生事件所造成經濟影響的擔憂加劇，日元連續兩日遭遇大規模拋售，跌至去年4月以來的最低水準，令投資者懷疑日元是否仍為避險貨幣。美元兌日元過去兩個交易日暴漲逾2%，創2019年4月25日以來新高至112.220。
韓聯社報導，週五韓國確認52個新增病例，確診總數達到156例，拉高對於全球公共衛生事件的警報。鑽石公主號郵輪的乘客中有兩名死亡病例，兩名回到澳洲的乘客檢測結果也呈陽性。
外資司司長宗長青認為，全球公共衛生事件影響今年1月已經開始顯現；預計二月、三月乃至一季度，影響將更加明顯。但從長遠和總體上看，我國吸收外資的綜合競爭優勢沒有改變，大多數跨國公司投資中國的信心和戰略沒有改變。。
美國上周初請失業金人數僅小幅上升，表明勞動力市場仍繼續保持強勁，在全球公共衛生事件帶來風險和企業投資疲弱之際，這會有助於支撐經濟。
美聯儲1月政策會議紀要也顯示，政策制定者“預計經濟將繼續以溫和步伐增長”，但表示擔憂全球公共衛生事件可能給經濟帶來的風險。
