1月9日，現貨黃金持續走低，原因在於美國和伊朗的衝突的緩和，但是美國總統特朗普表示，會對伊朗施加額外的懲罰性經濟制裁。而全球貿易局勢以及投資復蘇前景仍比預期慢，支撐了金價的高位。
美國總統特朗普週三收斂起近幾天憤怒的言論，對伊朗襲擊伊拉克美軍基地未做出軍事回應，而對之以加大經濟制裁力度。
特朗普表示，伊朗對駐伊拉克美軍的軍事基地發動襲擊，美國不一定要做出軍事回應。在夜間的襲擊中沒有美國人受傷。
伊朗外長紮裏夫表示，襲擊行動是德黑蘭對聖城旅指揮官蘇萊馬尼遇害的回應，已“到此為止”。他在推特上寫道：“我們不想讓衝突升級或挑起戰爭，但將會自我防衛對抗任何侵犯行為。”
分析師a表示：“伊朗選擇攻擊的目標似乎不是很重要。美方似乎也沒有人員傷亡。所以市場認為伊朗這次攻擊主要是給國內民眾交代。美國公眾輿論也不支持與伊朗開戰。”
分析師稱，伊朗希望避免與更強大的美國軍事力量發生任何常規的軍事衝突。美國和歐洲政府消息人士稱，他們認為伊朗在導彈襲擊中有意避免造成美軍人員傷亡，以免事態升級。
交易員的關注焦點料重新回到全球經濟狀況。美國和中國下周將簽訂第一階段貿易協議，預計將為風險資產提供潛在支撐。
但也有人認為，這種看法過於樂觀，貿易和整體經濟增長前景仍易受到美中貿易關係波動，以及地緣政治緊張局勢不斷升溫的影響，金價回調空間較為有限。
世界銀行週三微幅下調了對2019年和2020年的全球增長預測，因儘管美中兩國貿易緊張局勢有所降溫，但貿易和投資的復蘇仍慢於預期。
