美聯儲主席鮑威爾週二在美國國會外交關係委員會發表講話時稱，美聯儲在7月不一定會降息。除了鮑威爾之外，另外一位美聯儲票委聖路易斯聯儲主席也明確表示，對一些投資者表示驚訝，降息50個基點有些過度。
分析師說，“之前的黃金走勢相當高漲。現在是一個獲利回吐，而這次回吐的催化劑就是昨天美聯儲的評論。也許美聯儲今年確實陷入了降息的路徑上，這推動金價維持多頭趨勢，但現在我們應該意識到，不會看到之前如我們預期的那樣多的降息，這給金價帶來壓力。”
週二美聯儲主席鮑威爾在公開講話中強調，央行獨立於美國總統唐納德特朗普，他不會因為特朗普要求降息而貿然改變美聯儲的政策。
美國總統特朗普週三接受採訪時重申，他有權利降職或解雇美聯儲主席鮑威爾。特朗普認為鮑威爾根本不該把利率加到這麼高的水準。特朗普還稱，美聯儲的政策“很瘋狂”。
特朗普幾個月來一直批評美聯儲主席鮑威爾去年加息過快，幅度過大。特朗普重申了他的信念，那就是如果美聯儲降低利率，經濟就會更加強勁。
