美聯儲的政策會議結束之後，鮑威爾舉行記者會。而市場最關心的兩件是，就是點陣圖和公債持倉。美聯儲在這個會議中，可以在保持耐心的情況下，充分降低利率預測，讓市場和點陣圖更加相符。
鮑威爾和他的同事們幾乎肯定會將美聯儲的基準隔夜利率目標維持在2.25-2.50%區間不變，並堅持承諾對貨幣政策保持“耐心”。
然而，這次會議的重要資訊將是，在承諾保持耐心的情況下，政策制定者是否會充分降低他們的利率預測，使其與他們的“點陣圖”更加相符。
同樣重要的是，在計畫停止縮減美聯儲持有的近3.8萬億美元公債方面，決策者將會披露哪些新的細節？
對鮑威爾12月有關資產負債表言論的不滿，導致市場陷入一場動盪，幫助促成了美聯儲在一個月後停止加息。此後鮑威爾明確表示，避免“毫無必要的市場干擾”也是他的目標之一。
如今交易員預測今年不會加息，甚至2020年會降息。這一看法與美聯儲的意見之間若存在差距，就可能壓低市場。決策者大幅調降加息預期或許也有同樣效果，特別是如果伴隨著經濟前景的趨弱。
對利率預期或美聯儲債券持倉發出錯誤或者令人混淆的信號，都有可能打破很大程度上靠美聯儲精心維持的市場平靜，儘管經濟預估惡化。
波士頓聯儲主席羅森格倫3月5日在面向美國公司董事聯合會分會的演講中表示，耐心基本上是說我們不會就未來的預期給出很多指引，因為有足夠多的不確定性，我們需要觀察形勢發展情況。
由於通脹回升跡象不多，因此美國借款成本沒有上調的急迫性，投資者也已幾乎排除今年加息的可能性，尤其歐洲和中國增長放緩還可能令美國經濟承壓。
2008年金融危機後，美聯儲以銀行業準備金來擴充資產，藉以購置數萬億美元債券並且在近零利率水準的背景下刺激經濟。為了讓政策回歸正常，聯儲在2017年末起讓許多債券持倉自然到期，展開縮減資產負債表的進程。
紐約聯儲主席威廉姆斯本月稍早時稱，資產負債表規模到底需要多大“沒有確切的答案” 。投資者最快將能在本周找尋解答。美聯儲主席鮑威爾週三的記者會可能就會面臨外界追問這個主題。
