纸黄金挂单交易的概念，是指客户到可以办理纸黄金业务的网点进行纸黄金开户，即纸黄金凭证账户登记并使用以后，主动向所在银行网点或该商业网上电子银行委托成交价格，一旦纸黄金报价到达甚至超过客户委托的成交价格以后，马上执行客户的指令成交，完成纸黄金的一次交易。
首先我们要明白纸黄金挂单的含义，纸黄金挂单，相当于委托，即投资者在纸黄金交易时通过电话或网络，委托网上电子银行的纸黄金交易系统进行纸黄金交易的指令。
在纸黄金挂单交易成交以前，客户可以主动撤销未成交指令。在进行纸黄金挂单交易操作以后，被用于纸黄金挂单交易的资金立即被冻结，在纸黄金挂单交易的当日内，不得用该笔资金进行其他的支付用途，除非挂单交易取消。
所以，投资者进行纸黄金挂单交易时，其黄金投资理财存折内，必须有足够的资金或账户金份额。纸黄金挂单交易分为获利挂单和止损挂单。获利挂单接受投资者的买入和卖出委托，止损挂单则只是受了投资者的卖出委托。
当投资者以低于该银行的纸黄金当前卖出价格委托买入，或者高于银行的纸黄金当前买入价格委托卖出，这称作获利挂单。当投资者以低于该银行纸黄金当前买入价委托卖出，则称作止损挂单。
纸黄金挂单交易可用于对中长期的纸黄金价格走势设定波动性获利计划，这需要投资者拥有一定的金市行情分析能力，结合技术面和国际金价（现货黄金行情）资讯确认趋势的未来走向，找准入市点后锁定套利目标。
