伦敦的黄金定价是在“黄金屋”（Gold Room）——一间位于英国伦敦市中心的洛希尔公司总部的办公室里进行的，1919年9月12日，伦敦五大金行的代表首次聚会“黄金屋“，开始制定伦敦黄金市场每天的黄金价格，这种制度一直延续到了今天。
五大金行如何制定金价？
五大金行每天制定两次金价，分别为上午10时30分和下午3时。由洛希尔公司作为定价主持人，一般在定价之前，市场交易停止片刻。
此时个金商先暂停报价，由洛希尔公司的首席代表根据前一天晚上的伦敦市场收盘之后的纽约黄金市场价格以及当天早上的香港黄金市场价格定出一个适当的开盘价。
其余四家公司代表则分别坐在“黄金屋“的四周，立即将开盘价格报给各自公司的交易室，各个公司的交易室则马上按照这个价格进行交易，把最新的黄金价格用电话或电传转告给其客户，并通过路透社把价格呈现在各自交易室的电脑系统终端。
各代表在受到订购业务时，会将所有的交易单加在一起，看是买多还是卖多，或是买卖相抵，随后将数据信息以简单的行话告诉给洛希尔公司的首席代表以调整价格。
温馨提示：若开盘价过高，市场上没有出现买方，首席代表将会降低黄金价格；而若相反，则会将黄金价格抬高，直到出现卖家。定价交易就是在这样的供求关系上定出新价格的。
