空头头寸是指由卖出空头而产生的投资头寸。由于此头寸尚未被冲销，因此可从黄金市场价格下跌中获利。即投资者因预料价格会下跌提前提出卖出价格大笔卖出或者使卖出大于买入的行为。
在黄金市场交易中，投资者建立头寸后，选择适当的买卖点位和时机来建立头寸，这是获利的前提，如果能抓住入市时机，将获得较大的获利机会。相反则容易亏损。
空头头寸的特点
金市中的空头头寸可以通过买入等额的黄金合约而平仓。因空头头寸而买入称“空头回补”。在先前未建立多头头寸的情况下卖出， 则称为“卖空”。
