勇于尝试，就是踏出盈利的重要一步

1943年，美国的《黑人文摘》刚创刊时，前景并不被看好。杂志的创办人约翰逊为了扩大发行量，决定撰写一系列”假如我是黑人”的文章，请百人把自己摆在黑人的地位上，换一个角度思考黑人的处境问题。
他想，如果能请到罗斯福总统的夫人埃利诺来写这样一篇文章，结果将会是非常有号召力的，不管是对杂志的发行量还是对黑人问题来说都是如此。于是，他给总统夫人写了一封言辞非常恳切的信。
罗斯福夫人回信说她太忙，没有时间写。但是约翰逊并没有因此而气馁，他又给她写了一封信，结果还是被回绝了。 以后，每隔半个月，约翰逊就会准时给总统夫人写一封信，言辞也更加恳切。
后来，罗斯福夫人因公事来到约翰逊所在的芝加哥市，会在该市逗留两天。约翰逊得到这个消息以后，立即给她发了一份电报，请她在芝加哥期间抽空给《黑人文摘》写篇文章。
或许是他的诚心感动了罗斯福夫人吧，这一次她没有拒绝，她把自己的想法写成文章寄给了《黑人文摘》。消息传出后，全国都知道了。一个月内，《黑人文摘》的销售量就从2万份激增到15万份。
