“羊群效应”这个词，最早出现在是投资市场上，它是指在交易过程中，投资者会不自觉地学习和模仿其他投资者交易行为的现象。简单做个类比就是，如果我们将木棍放在一群绵羊的前面。 第一只羊跳过去后，第二和第三只羊也会跟著跳过去。这时，即使我们撤回木棍，后面的绵羊来到了这里，也会像前面的绵羊一样跳著过去，即使木棍已经不在那了。这就是所谓的“羊群效应”，也称为“整合心理学”。
之所以在投资中会出现羊群效应，正是因为投资者对市场掌握的信息不足，或者缺乏系统了解，很难对市场的未来不确定性做出合理的预期，常常只能通过观察周围人的行为来提取信息。在不断传递这些信息时，许多人的信息将大致相同并相互增强，从而导致很多投资者在某个时期，他们所做的交易操作都完全一模一样。
而这种羊群效应的心理，往往会使我们失去对市场的理性判断，盲目跟从他人做单操作，一旦他人投资方向是错的，我们也会走上错误的道路，蒙受亏损。所以在黄金投资市场上，投资者在听从他人建议时，也要保持理性的独立思考，不能人云亦云，一定要根据自己的投资知识、技巧判断市场大势，谨慎做单才能稳步获利。
