美国劳动市场意外大幅失速，或许是受天候因素影响，12月非农就业人口仅新增7.4万人，创2011年1月以来最低。
虽然当期失业率由7%回落至6.7%，为2008年10月以来新低，但这也只是部分反映长期失业人口因失望而离开劳动市场。据彭博社调查，经济学家原预估非农就业将新增19.7万人，失业率持平于7%。另外，11月份非农就业数据自20.3万人上修3.8万人至24.1万人。
劳工部表示，受气候不佳影响，无法遂行工作的劳动人口高达27.3万人，为1977年同期以来最多。按统计原则，如果劳工在薪资涵盖期间内未收到报酬，就会影响就业人数的计算。
数据显示，教育与医疗服务事业几无新增就业人口，是2010年9月以来最差表现。除此之外，建筑业、运输仓储事业还不增反减，当期分别月减1.6万人与0.6万人。至于制造业则成长趋缓，仅微幅增加0.9万人。
劳动参与率自前月的63%下滑0.2个百分点至62.8%；就业人口比率持平于58.6%。据统计，2013年非农就业每月平均增加18.2万人，稍逊于2012年的18.3万人。
长期失业人口(至少27周)月减16.6万人至387.8万人，但占总失业人口比例自37.4%上升至37.7%。平均失业周数持平于37.1周。
民间非农业部门每小时平均工资增加0.1%至24.17美元；每周平均工时减少0.1小时至34.4小时，其中制造业员工每周平均工时持平于41小时，加班时数增加0.1小时至3.5小时。
