奥巴马已默许桑默斯退出竞选美联储主席

《彭博社》周日 (15日) 报导，美国前财政部长桑默斯 (Lawrence Summers) 意外宣布，决定退出联准会 (Fed) 主席的角逐竞争，原本最受奥巴马青睐的他表示，退选理由是不希望国会因他掀起争端，对国家造成伤害。
桑默斯致函奥巴马总统指出：「我勉强得出了结论，倘若当选后，国会对我行使同意权的过程，恐怕会相当严厉艰辛，对 Fed、政府或国家根本的持续复苏均无帮助。」
参议院内部对于桑默斯的提名倾向反对，根据先前报导，银行委员会 22 位成员中，占 12 位数量优势的民主党，甚至亦有人表态将投下反对票，共和党议员也未展现赞成态度。
奥巴马发表声明，称他接受桑默斯的决定，并对他加以称赞：「作为前经济顾问，桑默斯是我团队的关键成员，曾共同面对大萧条以来最严重的经济危机，他的地位举足轻重，因为他的专业知识、智能和领导才能，我们得以扶正经济恢复成长。」奥巴马表示他会「永远感激桑默斯」。
奥巴马曾提及 3 位人士，可能获提名接替伯南克 (Ben Bernanke) 的主席职位，除了桑默斯外还有现任 Fed 副主席叶伦 (Janet Yellen)，以及前 Fed 副主席 Donald Kohn。
根据一位匿名内情人士透露，直至今日桑默斯仍是总统心中首选，但叙利亚局势议题成了他的阻碍，让国会中反对他提名的势力掌握时间，持续对政府施压。
美元兑日元、欧元均呈下跌。
