风险情绪恶化，美元飙升商品货币大跌
周二(8月17日)美元指数一度上涨0.6％，为8月6日以来最大涨幅，在美国经济数据显示出复苏不均衡之后，美元兑所有主要发达市场和新兴市场货币受月中的投资再平衡资金流动的影响都延续了涨势。现货黄金回吐了早前涨势，因美元走强，此前美国喜忧参半的经济数据说明经济复苏不平衡。油价连续第四个交易日下跌，美油跌超1%，因日本新冠确诊病例数激增，亚洲需求疲软，且石油输出国组织(OPEC)及其盟友认为市场不需要更多原油。
鲍威尔强调美联储独立性
美联储主席鲍威尔表示，美联储在货币政策决策方面具有独立性。美联储坚持现有职能具有重要意义。美联储那些“强有力的政策工具”存在诸多局限性。相比之下，财政或政府政策更加有力；货币政策无法带来定向的好处。我们不会简单地重返新冠肺炎流行病疫情之前的经济状态。新冠疫情可能伴随美国一段时间。尚不确定德尔塔变异毒株是否会对美国造成严重的经济影响。美国可能会继续实施远程办公方案，那将改变工作场所。公众互动和服务类就业岗位的复苏速度更慢。
美联储官员谈及高通胀率
美联储卡什卡利：即使7月就业报告强劲，仍有600-800万美国人没有工作。我认为高通胀数据是暂时的。如有需要，美联储将提高利率以对抗通货膨胀。仍认为就业市场“非常疲软”，不担心政府以低利率借贷来资助长期投资，政府在利率极低的情况下支出是有价值的，对经济来说过多的债务会导致通胀，但这应该体现在政府借款的利率上，而现在看不到。
美国7月零售销售额环比下降1.1% 降幅超出预期
美国商务部当地时间17日公布数据显示，7月美国零售销售额环比下降1.1%，降幅超过市场普遍预期的0.3%。美媒分析认为，随着德尔塔变异毒株快速传播引起疫情反弹将导致第三季度旅游、娱乐业等服务行业消费下降。同时，食品、服装、洗护用品价格的上涨也将在一定程度上影响对这些产品的消费。
