美国财长耶伦和美联储主席鲍威尔共同出席国会听证会，他们表示，经济仍有较大困难，推动美元的避险需求，美元指数也创下新高，非美货币受挫，而国际油价则出现了巨大跌幅，原油市场复苏前景灰暗。
美国股市周二急挫，因投资者担忧基础设施支出成本，以及美国政府可能加税来为总统拜登的1.9万亿美元援助计划买单，他们还担心市场会进一步下行。道指跌0.94%，标普500跌0.76%，纳指跌1.12%。
有关政府基础设施计划的发言令担心股市估值过高的投资者感到不安。 “人们对在可能出现的抛售之前撤出有些许担忧，任何可能出现这种情况的感觉，都会推动人们在下跌时迅速行动。”
现货黄金周二下滑0.7%，最低触及1724.78美元/盎司，美元触及两周高位盖过了美国国债收益率下跌的影响。
原油期货价格周二跌至2月初以来最低，因欧洲多国加强防疫限制，给原油消费快速复苏的前景蒙上了阴影。美国原油期货大跌6.2%，期货曲线结构也释放出近期疲软信号。
布伦特期货近月合约自1月以来首次较次月合约出现贴水，表明供过于求。美原油期货同样出现远期溢价。
道明证券大宗商品策略主管Bart Melek在报告中表示，“炼油厂还没有摆脱打击，加之欧洲重新实行防疫限制，近期需求前景恶化触发了价格下跌，”“随着价格在日内跌破50日移动均线，技术交易员很可能使WTI价格进一步走低”。
