週一(3月8日)布倫特原油價格升至70美元/桶上方，當地時間3月7日晚，位於沙特東部的宰赫蘭市上空傳出巨大爆炸聲。宰赫蘭市是沙特石油重鎮，同時也是世界最大石油公司——沙特阿美石油公司的總部所在地。多名身處該市不同位置的社交媒體用戶均表示聽到疑似導彈被攔截的聲響。
葉門胡塞武裝幾乎與此同時發佈聲明表示，該武裝向沙特首都利雅得、東部和南部的多個地區發射了8枚彈道導彈並放飛14架無人機，用以對沙特境內的石油和軍事設施發動襲擊。美國駐沙特使領館3月7日晚間發佈預警，要求所有在沙美國公民提高警惕，並做好發生類似事件的預防措施。
石油輸出國組織及其盟友(OPEC+)上周一致同意，儘管原油價格上漲，但仍將廣泛堅持減產與此同時，投資者關注的焦點仍然是全球經濟復蘇的前景。美國財政部長耶倫週一表示，美國總統拜登的1.9萬億美元新冠疫情援助計畫將提供足夠的資源推動美國經濟“非常強勁”地復蘇，但不會解決長期存在的不平等問題。
耶倫表示，這項法案將真正為美國人提供他們需要的救濟，使他們能夠渡過疫情，我們預計計畫提供的資源將真正推動經濟非常強勁地復蘇。她重申了她的期望，即一攬子計畫將使美國在明年恢復到大流行前的“充分就業”水準。
