12月23日，美国公布了一系列的重要数据，这些数据好坏参半，当中美国11月PCE通胀数据不及预期，并且11月耐用品订单超出市场预期，在数据公布后，现货黄金短线有所上涨。
具体数据显示，美国11月PCE物价指数年率实际公布1.1%，预期1.2%，前值1.2%；美国11月核心PCE物价指数年率实际公布1.4%，预期1.4%，前值1.4%。
从今年3月至今，美国经济已经开始从新冠肺炎疫情的打击中出现温和复苏。美国国会推出新一轮财政刺激计划的可能性上升以及新冠疫苗取得积极进展成为近期影响美国经济复苏前景的利好消息。不过，疫情的阴霾还远未散去。
美联储在最新的政策决议中，寻求在长期内实现最大就业和2%的通货膨胀率。由于通胀持续低于这一较长期目标，美联储将致力于在一段时间内实现通胀适度高于2%的目标，以便通胀率在一段时间内平均为2%，长期通胀预期保持在2%。
美联储主席鲍威尔在利率决议后的新闻发布会上表示，全球面临沉重的反通胀压力，推高通胀并非易事。从趋势上看，这可能是新一轮漫长的扩张。
美国截至12月19日当周初请失业金人数实际公布80.30万，预期88万，前值88.5万；美国截至12月12日当周续请失业金人数实际公布533.70万，预期556.0万，前值550.8万。
在新冠疫情反弹影响下美国就业市场复苏面临巨大阻碍。分析人士认为，自今年春季以来，申请失业救济人数整体呈下降趋势。但近月来复苏速度有所放缓，这与新冠疫情在美境内大幅反弹趋势相吻合。
分析认为，美国就业增长整体趋势正在明显放缓。就业市场已经失去了增长动力。近期裁员主要发生在娱乐和休闲业以及交通运输行业，包括餐馆、零售商和航空公司等。这也与疫情下被迫关停的行业类型相一致。由于就业需求没有完全恢复，就业机会下降趋势还将持续，每周都将有成千上万人失去工作。
另有分析指出，近期美国失业人数激增，表明就业形势不仅没有逐步好转，反而在加剧恶化。而首次申请失业救济人数出现跳升尤其令人担忧，因为目前该指标仍远高于疫情前，环比增幅也仍维持在疫情前三倍多水平。
