11月4日，现货黄金处于弱势震荡状态，由于民主党无法在美国大选中控制参议院的押注，市场对美国推出更大规模财政刺激计划的预期明显降低，加上欧美股市大涨也削弱了黄金的吸引力。
盘中稍早，随着美元成为最受青睐的避险资产，金价下跌超过1%。此前，特朗普在数百万张选票仍未清点的情况下，错误地宣告自己获胜。
尽管拜登有望获胜，但民主党似乎无法控制美国参议院。民主党在选举日令人失望的表现使得米奇·麦康奈尔可能继续担任参议院多数党领袖，民主党或因此在新刺激方案谈判中失去筹码。
目前的结果是民主党在众议院领先席位减少，在参议院未能取得多数，这预示新刺激方案的规模可能要比特朗普政府和民主党在选举日前磋商的2万亿美元更小。获任肯塔基州参议员的麦康奈尔周三表示，“希望导致刺激谈判僵持的党派纷争已经消退，这是我们回归后的头等要务。”
