10月8日，金价上涨后出现明显回落，由于美国总统大选充满不确定性，同时市场认为财政刺激措施将带动通胀，让投资者对较高风险的资产有较大的兴趣，但美国大选前达成财政刺激方案的可能性较低，金价反弹有限。
华尔街主要股指触及一个月高位，限制了金价的上涨，此前特朗普的讲话提高了人们对出台新一轮财政刺激措施的希望，尽管劳动力市场的复苏难以获得动能。
美国新一轮财政刺激协议谈判依旧没有任何进展，这令金价反弹乏力。美国参议院多数党领袖米奇·麦康奈尔表示，临近11月大选使得达成经济刺激协议“具有挑战性”。经济形势艰难，需要有针对性的援助，但达成一揽子计划协议的时间“不确定”。众议院议长坚持难以接受的金额，希望我们很快找到前进的方法。当被问及总统特朗普对经济刺激方案谈判的影响时，麦康奈尔说，有时候跟进讨论“令人困惑”。
美国众议院议长佩洛西周四表示，仍然对达成一揽子刺激方案抱有希望。如果不就更广泛的经济刺激方案达成协议，不可能就航空或其它任何一个行业单独制定纾困措施。佩洛西在国会新闻发布会上的讲话表明，即便有迹象显示得不到进一步支持的经济复苏可能会减弱，围绕刺激计划的僵局也不可能马上得到化解。
缺乏新一轮刺激后的低通胀压力目前施压于黄金。美国大选的因素开始被计入金价，并且市场还在关注着英国退欧、贸易问题等地缘政治风险；黄金市场更多的波动以及美国大选辩论并没有影响到市场对年底金价回到2000美元，白银回到30美元/盎司水平的预期。
市场对缺乏额外刺激的担忧影响了黄金的表现。这令市场对美国经济失去动能有所担忧；不过美国大选之后，新一轮的刺激将不可避免地出现，对黄金是利好的。尽管美国两党有分歧，但都会通过大规模的财政刺激，也就会推高金价。
