7月20日，现货黄金持续走高，刷新至近几年来的新高点，由于疫情感染病例的激增，以及投资对市场刺激措施的预期，明显支撑了投资者的避险需求。目前看来，现货黄金有可能继续上涨。
COMEX 9月交割的白银期货周一最高上涨2.7％，至每盎司20.30美元，结算价为20.192美元，主力合约价格在截至6月的三个月中飙升了32％。黄金和白银今年飙升，虽然防疫措施部分有所放松，但疫情危机扰乱了全球经济，刺激人们对避险资产的持续需求，包括美国在内的许多国家疫情尚未得到控制，增强了持有金、银的理由。
分析师表示，目前黄金的受欢迎程度呈指数级上升，完全是因为所有通胀因素：收益率曲线、印钞、对经济的担忧和疫情；当你看到牛市发生一些事情时，你会想在回调时买入…很多人的目标位是1825美元；如果金价突破该水准，可能会升得更高。
黄金价格目前低于2011年9月创下的每盎司1920.30美元的历史高点，金价上涨主要是受到一波货币刺激措施的提振。有迹象显示，欧盟成员国愿意在1.8万亿欧元(2万亿美元)新冠疫情刺激计划上做出妥协，这也使黄金得到良好支持。
受避险需求以及对供给面的担忧影响，白银期货追随黄金涨势，攀升至20美元/盎司上方。法国兴业银行在一份报告中称，工业需求复苏，加上拉丁美洲的供应担忧，以及新冠病毒病例增多威胁其供应链，也扶助推高银价。
由于强劲的金价和有利的金融条件，银价料将继续走高。”该报告对白银的推荐仅次于铜；下半年实际需求也将恢复，这将进一步推动白银价格上涨，从而略微缩小金银价格比。
