5月13日，由于美联储主席鲍威尔的讲话进一步提高了黄金的避险低位，鲍威尔表示，美联储目前面临前所未有的下行风险，若财政的货币政策没有跟上，将对家庭和企业造成巨大的伤害，如果有必要，将采取更多刺激措施，缓解疫情对经济的冲击。
鲍威尔称，经济疲弱增长和收入停滞将持续“一段长时间”,承诺联储将因应需要使用更多工具，并呼吁增加财政支出。现货黄金盘中一度上涨高达0.9%，刷新近三日高点至1718.53美元/盎司，但在鲍威尔拒绝了将负利率作为刺激工具的想法之后，金价回吐部分涨幅。
当前，各国央行和政府为受疫情影响的经济提供了前所未有的财政和货币支持。黄金往往会受益于广泛的刺激措施，因为它被视为对冲通胀和货币贬值的工具。
美联储还有许多其他选项，因此我们有可能看到出台更多量化宽松政策或能为黄金市场带来积极环境的持续性政策。预计全球利率将保持低位，一些国家的利率为负，这将继续为黄金提供有利的环境。
