由于周三伊朗对美军基地进行的导弹袭击，推动金价上涨至千六美元，原油价格也持续上涨，但在几小时后，由于避险情绪的消退，全球股市恢复上涨，金价也回归了正常的形态。
政治局势危机越来越难以对金融市场产生持久的影响。就最基本层面而言，投资者看来好像相信伊朗和美国将避免更广泛的战火。近年来已证明，区域性军事爆炸和冲突爆发不会对石油供应和油价或全球经济活动产生持久的影响。即便9月时沙特石油设施遇袭也未对原油价格造成持续性影响。波斯湾之外，多年来朝鲜核试验和导弹发射并未升级，也未长期影响国际投资格局。
分析师指出，科技发展意味着今天全球创造1美元的GDP所需要的石油要少得多。他还强调，1973年的时候产油国会把额外的石油收入存起来作为储蓄，给全球经济需求造成净冲击，因为这些钱来自石油买家的口袋。到了2020年，产油国把这笔钱毫无顾虑地进行消费，因此油价上涨并不意味着经济需求大幅降低，或有任何潜在的降低。
战争和侵略曾造成市场发生重大转变，导致小规模恐慌和避险资产买盘。但近几十年的经验表明，在所有因素相同的情况下，市场往往会迅速复苏，有胆量无视短期震荡的资产组合经理往往表现很好，甚至不需要进行昂贵的对冲。
2003年，作为全球最值得信赖资产之一的德国政府公债收益率在3月至6月期间下跌了近70个基点；1990年下跌幅度与之相近。分析师表示，回顾过去的几十年就会发现，每当发生长期战争是可能性更大的结果时，人们就会争相买进政府公债。施罗德投资指出，在风险极高时期，包括公债和黄金在内的“安全”资产投资组合通常跑赢“风险较大”的股票。
但是，在所有这些情况下，股票在几个月内就回升了，这表明如果投资者愿意或能够忽略波动性，那么投资于风险较高的资产组合是比投资于安全资产组合更好的策略。
