上周的就业数据被认为不太可能改变投资者对美联储在3月会议上加息的预期。黄金对美国利率上升高度敏感，因为它们增加了持有非收益率黄金的机会成本，同时推高了美元的价格。
分析师表示，鉴于物价压力疲弱，且公众对美联储实现其2%通胀目标的信心可能流失，美联储2018年可能只需升息两次。
鉴于经济将受益于减税，美联储应在今年3次上调利率。克利夫兰联储备主席梅斯特表示，她预计今年将有四次加息，这要归功于美国经济的强劲增长和低失业率。
分析师称：“金价短期将承压，因美国税改以及升息预期将提振美元走强。不过市场很快会习惯升息预期，美元随之会丧失强势，从而又推动金价上涨。我们预期金价会在2018年下半年突破2017年高位。”
分析师认为，最近黄金的上涨可能是由于短期交易者的支撑，美国商品期货交易委员会（CFTC）的数据显示，12月中旬以来黄金价格上涨超过6%主要是因为受到投机的驱动，该分析师认为，黄金面临回调的风险已经上升，如果美股继续飙升，投资者保持对风险资产的偏好，黄金可能迎来一波获利回吐。
