前总统卡特支持特朗普
尽管最近几天，美国的几位前总统间接地批评了特朗普政府，但同时也有一位支持特朗普的前总统出现了，那就是美国前总统卡特。卡特还意外透露，他及其夫人在去年的大选中并没有支持民主党候选人希拉里。
在上周末接受《纽约时报》的采访中，93岁高龄的卡特表示，自己愿意与美国总统特朗普合作，承担出使朝鲜的外交使命，与朝鲜最高领导人金正恩进行会谈。
在《纽约时报》中的采访中，卡特同时声称，俄罗斯人并未干涉2016年美国大选。而显然，卡特和他的太太在此问题上存在分歧。在接受采访时，他的太太依旧认为俄罗斯对去年的美国大选动了手脚。
卡特用很简短的话语评论了朝鲜，但这位前总统表示，如果被问到是否愿意前往朝鲜缓解紧张局势时，他的回答是，自己愿意这样做。卡特表示，朝鲜最高领导人金正恩想要拯救自己的政权，因此不知道朝鲜这边究竟会怎么做。卡特说，金正恩总是做一些让别人难以预料的事。
卡特曾于1994年在朝鲜进行过谈判，另一次是在2010年，他展开了“救人之旅”，在朝鲜“成功捞人”，领回了一名美国囚犯。然而，在过去，特朗普在Twitter上发言论，并不看好卡特。事实上，卡特与特朗普分属民主党和共和党，政见不和本在情理之中，所以卡特此番力挺特朗普多多少少令人感到意外。
事实上，不光是在朝鲜问题和“通俄门”事件上对特朗普表示了声援，卡特前总统在接受访谈时还意外透露，他及其夫人在去年的大选中并没有支持民主党候选人希拉里。在民主党初选当中，他一直支持的都是另一位民主党候选人桑德斯
此外，卡特还批评了他的民主党同僚前总统奥巴马，并称，奥巴马当时宣誓就职时，承诺让美国人看到“希望和变革”。但事实上他没有。当谈及中东问题时，卡特称，虽然奥巴马发表了一些非常精彩的声明，但在他看来，当奥巴马首次就职时，就食言了。
现年93岁高龄的卡特在1977年至1981年间担任美国总统，任内遭遇石油危机和伊朗人质危机，在内政外交都无建树后在连任战中惨败给了共和党人里根，并一直被评为“美国最差总统”之一，不过，在漫长的退休生涯中，他却为世界和平四处奔走劳苦功高，并被颁授诺贝尔和平奖，并获得“最佳前总统”雅号。而眼下最让他欣慰的是，当前民意调查显示，奥巴马或者都有可能把“最差总统”的帽子从他这里摘走并戴到自己头上。
