特朗普宣战？美军全员待命
美国国防部长马蒂斯10月9日敦促美国军方响应美国政府的号召尽快“准备就绪”，以应对总统特朗普一旦下令对朝鲜采取军事行动的突发状况。
在华盛顿举行的美国陆军(AUSA)会议上，马蒂斯称，美国政府将继续努力，力争以和平的方式解决朝鲜核问题，但马蒂斯表示，朝鲜的挑衅行为正在威胁到地区乃至全球的和平，因此，美国三军仍然需要枕戈待旦，随时待命。
马蒂斯称，现在美国通过经济制裁试，图让朝鲜及时收手。但未来会怎样，谁都无法料到。所以，美国军方可以做的一件事就是：比需必须做好准备，确保美国保有采取必要军事行动这一“最后选项”，如果届时有需要的话，特朗普可以使用这种选择。
这番言论的发表时期，正值朝鲜与美国关系紧张之际，朝鲜已表示计划进行更多弹道导弹试验。朝鲜还威胁要在太平洋进行核武器试验。退役海军陆战队四星上将凯利称：“过去在战斗中犯下的错误提醒着我们，必须在拦截导弹方面有出色的表现。”
然而，尽管上周在国会发表的讲话中马蒂斯表示，美国应该留在伊朗核协议中，但这次马蒂斯并没有具体谈到伊朗核协议。特朗普一直对这项协议持批评的态度，特朗普定于10月15日前就美方是否确认伊方履行了协议的内容向国会作报告。同时，马蒂斯批评国会没有采取足够的措施来投资军事活动，他呼吁美国议员取消预算上限。马蒂斯补充道：“我们现在有时间为战争做好准备，这是防止战争的最佳方式。
