自上世纪80年代后期起，美国65岁及以上人口中的就业人数比例直线上升，并于今年4月达到自上世纪60年代以来的高点。一般来说，年轻人的就业意愿会比老年人更强。但危机之后的数据显示，55岁以上的新增就业人数大于54岁以下人群。
民调数据显示，年收入越低的人群有更高概率选择延长自己的工作年限。在“只要可能将会一直工作下去”、“我并不打算退休”这两个选项中，年收入小于4万美元、年收入4万~10万美元、年收入超过10万美元受访者的意愿逐次降低。
除去美国劳动力市场的老龄化趋势，JanusCapital的数据显示目前约有78%的符合条件的劳动力被雇用，而这个数字依然低于前两次的周期高点。美国就业市场的复苏情况或许并不如人们想象的这么乐观。
