此外，汽车厂商公布10月销量创10年来同期最佳水平，因皮卡和运动型车(SUV)需求旺盛，但通用汽车销售则不及预期。这表明汽车业保持强劲势头。2010年以来汽车业增速一直高于整体经济。汽车销售情况通常是美国消费者支出状况的初步信号。据研究公司Autodata Corp，美国10月汽车销量增加6.1%至128万辆，略高于分析师预期。10月经季节调整后的销售年率为1,646万辆，接近汤森路透调查分析师预期的1,649万辆。销量高于分析师预期的有福特汽车、克莱斯勒集团和日产汽车。除了通用外，本田汽车亦不及预期，丰田汽车则符合预估。
