彭博社27日报导，2013年10月份中国大陆自香港净进口黄金数量月增18.7%至129.9公吨；今年1-10月年增逾倍至955.9公吨。统计显示，10月香港出口以及转口至中国大陆的黄金数量合计达到147.9公吨、高于9月的116.3公吨。截至2013年9月底中国外汇储备余额为3.66兆美元、创历史新高。彭博社指出，中国第3季外汇储备余额增加了0.16兆美元、创2011年以来最大增额。世界黄金协会(WGC)预估，中国今年的黄金需求将超越印度成为最大市场、数量上看1千公吨。截至9月底的一年期间中国的珠宝首饰、金条和金币需求上扬30%至996.3公吨，同一时间印度增加24%至977.6公吨。Thomson Reuters报导，中国大陆自香港净进口的实物黄金数量已经连续6个月高于100公吨。
根据zerohedge.com在11月2日公布的统计图表，10月的129.9公吨净进口黄金数量为史上次高纪录、仅逊于今年3月的136.2公吨；超越今年7月(113公吨)、8月(110.5公吨)的进口量。zerohedge预估2009年迄今中国已添购逾2,500公吨的黄金，使其超越德国跃居全球第二大黄金储备国、且每个月还以100公吨的数量继续往上增加。英国金融时报10月3日报导，根据Thomson Reuters GFMS的预估，2013年将会是现代史上中国首度超越印度成为黄金最大消费国。汇丰(HSBC)也指出，这将是史上首次，全球最大黄金生产国同时也是最大进口国、消费国。分析师推测，中国人民银行今年已出手购买数百公吨黄金。
