技术创新使许多金属受益，但黄金却没有。彭博情报建议将黄金与比特币结合在一个投资组合中。
到目前为止，货币数字化一直在让美元和比特币受益，而黄金则被削弱。
“正如我们所见，金属行业最有可能继续超越多数大宗商品，尤其是从较长期来看。脱碳、电气化和数字化的加速趋势使铜等金属脱离原油，而原油正在被技术取代，但黄金正在被拉入这个兔子洞。货币数字化提高了美元的储备货币价值，与黄金相反，后者正在被比特币取代。”
麦克格隆说，如果没有比特币，黄金的交易价格可能远高于2000美元。他补充说，这种流行的加密货币继续限制了黄金的上行潜力。
他计算称，“若4月28日铜价维持在每吨9800美元附近，且收益率不变，金价将接近2300美元，而非约1780美元，以匹配铜/金比率与债券之间的10年关系。”
这位策略师指出，跟铜等金属不同，创新并不是黄金的朋友。
“正如我们所看到的，黄金在投资组合中已经达到了一个拐点，被比特币取代。在一个数字化的世界里，可能没有什么可以阻止基准加密货币以牺牲金属为代价的积累，”他表示。
麦克格隆的解决方案是将黄金与比特币配对。“当写2021年的历史时，我们预计一个主要主题将是比特币在投资组合中取代黄金的加速进程。如果不与比特币配对，这种金属将变得越来越赤裸，而不断推进的数字化可能会限制黄金的价格升值潜力，黄金的交易价格低于1800美元，”麦克格隆说。
更具体地说，麦克格隆一直在关注黄金比特币75/25指数。“年度指标显示，黄金比特币75/25指数与股市的风险大致相同，这表明多样化的好处以及比特币与大多数资产的低相关性。2018年初，比特币从1.7万美元下跌，黄金-比特币75/25指数上涨了约110%，几乎是标准普尔500指数总回报率的两倍，是现货黄金的3倍多。”
他补充称，工业金属的表现应继续优于贵金属，但他警告称，铜价在今年下半年有回调的风险。
“如果股市持续上涨，工业金属的表现应该会继续优于贵金属，但我们认为，对股市上涨的日益依赖，是大宗商品面临的最大风险。”
