10月16日，由于美元指数回吐涨幅，金价小幅走强，但病毒感染病例增加，美国经济刺激措施没有进展，加上英国做好了无协议脱欧准备等，促使市场寻求避险产品，美元指数则受到较大关注。
美指上日录得近两周高位93.910，本周累计上涨逾0.6%。美国中西部新增新冠病例正以创纪录的速度增加，同时美国上周初请失业金人数继续回升，显示经济复苏失去动能，且白宫以及参众两院针对美国刺激计划的三方谈判陷入停顿。
拜登在费城通过美国广播公司(ABC)对选民发表讲话，矛头直指特朗普对疫情的处理，抨击后者淡化疫情的威胁，“他说他没有告诉任何人，因为担心造成美国人恐慌，美国人没有恐慌，他自己感到恐慌。”
特朗普为自己应对疫情的举措与个人行为提出辩护，包括在白宫玫瑰花园举办了一项没几个人戴口罩或保持社交距离的活动，最后导致许多与会者染疫。特朗普还暗批拜登在疫情加剧期间有几个月没参加竞选行程。
英镑日内剧震近百点，本周累计跌幅逾1%；欧元本周也跌近0.8%。新冠大流行已使欧洲陷入前所未有的衰退，但许多国家正再次收紧限制措施，以应对冬季来临之际横扫欧洲大陆的第二波疫情。伦敦从午夜起加强抗疫封锁限制，巴黎则在实行宵禁……
随着新冠病例再度快速增加，市场担心经济活动放缓，欧洲各地情势恶化都很明显，这对经济复苏势头是个重大打击，并加大了通缩风险。在这样严峻的形势下，英国无协议脱欧的风险被严重放大了，加剧了欧系货币走势的不确定性。
此次冠状病毒疫情也扰乱了峰会的进程，因为峰会的主要参与者之一、欧盟执委会主席冯德莱恩的一名工作人员的病毒检测呈阳性后，她不得不突然离开会议，进入预防性的自我隔离。
金融市场的许多人预计，未来几周还将经历戏剧化的反复，但双方最终会在11月初达成一项有限的协议。考虑到经济低迷和全球不稳定，如果双方不能达成协议，市场会陷入疯狂，不排除金价因此重新站上2000美元。
