首相约翰逊周二鼓励英国人恢复在家工作，并将对酒吧和餐馆等场所实施新的限制措施，以遏制正在迅速加快蔓延的第二波新冠疫情。周度数据显示，英国每日至少新增6000例新冠病例，住院患者人数每八天增加一倍，检测系统的压力巨大。
欧洲央行行长拉加德周一表示，欧洲经济反弹不确定且不平衡，需要“非常谨慎”地评估即将到来的数据，包括冠状病毒大流行的演变，“复苏的力量仍然非常不确定，而且参差不齐和不完整，并且仍然高度依赖疫情的演变和抗疫政策能否取得成功。”

美国国会预算办公室(CBO)在其年度长期预算展望报告中称，冠状病毒大流行导致联邦政府支出增加，加速了美国预算赤字和债务的增长。并预计，到2050年，公众所持美国联邦债务与美国经济产出之比将从2019年的79%和2020年底的98%飙升至195%左右。
美国总统特朗普周一在造势场合中对数千名支持者表示，自己要求调整美元汇率，但被官员断然拒绝。特朗普在5月改弦易辙，从多年来一直指责美元相对强势损害了美国的竞争力，改为支持“强势美元”。
美国达拉斯联储主席卡普兰周一表示，美国经济在未来两年半或三年内可能都需要近零利率，市场可能还未完全消化美联储新做出的低利率承诺的影响，“我可能认为保持政策宽松，甚至是高度宽松，是合适的。”
美联储上周发出新指引，强调利率将保持低位，直到美国经济随着时间推移稳步达到平均通胀率2%的目标。这个做法使政策侧重于解决就业不足问题，包括弥合黑人与白人劳工、及其他种族之间的差距。
