4月16日，现货黄金虽然重回涨势，但美元指数的持续巩固则限制了金价的涨势，美国初晴失业金数据证明，由于疫情的封锁措施，抹去了美国十多年来创造的就业机会，美国经济处于严重的衰退之中，加剧对全球经济的悲观，强化了现金为王的需求。
截至4月11日当周，美国初请失业金人数录得524.5万，虽然不及预期的550万，且明显低于前值660.60万，但过去四周累计初请失业金人数超过2200万，依然足以证明全球最大经济体正处于严重衰退之中。
美国3月新屋开工指数创1984年以来最大降幅。上日发布的数据显示，美国3月零售销售出现创纪录下跌，制造业产出创自1946年以来最大降幅。
随着经济活动“在所有地区急剧萎缩”，美国企业受到新型冠状病毒疫情的冲击。3月份期间，美国从担心新型冠状病毒疫情带来的风险，转变为全国大部分地方都在实行某种形式的“居家令”，数千万人失去工作。
冠状病毒疫情带来的冲击使美国几乎陷入了自由落体状态的经济衰退，美联储决策者和经济学家正密切关注美国企业所感受到的日益加剧的痛苦，他们试图预测一旦解除社交疏离限制、企业能够复产复工，经济反弹的速度会有多快。
美国总统特朗普周三表示，数据表明美国新冠病毒新增感染高峰已过，并称他将在周四的新闻发布会上宣布重新开放经济的“新准则”。如果先前预设的5月初复工、哪怕是逐步复工决定能够得到落实，短期内市场人气将有所改观，料限制避险黄金涨势。
英国央行周四公布的一项调查显示，由于正感受到新冠疫情给经济带来的影响，英国银行业预计未来三个月将增加对企业放贷，同时减少抵押贷款和消费信贷的发放。调查还显示，企业的信贷需求为2007年开始此项调查以来最高。
疫情正在产生广泛的影响，多数企业预计上月产出和销售下滑，56%的企业称3月的销售和产出受到了影响，比例高于前一个月的47%。九成企业预计疫情影响将持续数月或更长时间。
